ABOUT  The Hugh Sawrey Art Gallery focuses on art that has a rural theme to it but can cover a wide variety of subjects and caters for artists from many backgrounds. Hugh Sawrey once said “In my paintings and drawings I have tried to be honest and factual above all things, because Australia is an honest land.” Such was his devotion that in 1974 Sawrey was the founder and driving force behind the creation of the Stockman’s Hall of Fame at Longreach in Queensland—a memorial to the explorers, overlanders, pioneers and settlers of remote Australia, many of whom were so dependant on the horse. The Hugh Sawrey Art Gallery holds exhibitions on a continual basis throughout the year.
